HISTORICAL GEMS OF JOTUNHEIMEN

Historical gems of Jotunheimen and Sogn, the perfect combination of mountain and fjord.

A 3-day tour starting from Bergen or Oslo, crossing Sognefjellet – Norway’s highest mountain pass. One of the oldest and most beautiful of Norway’s National Tourist Routes, offering a panorama of some of Norway’s highest mountains – Jotunheimen, Breheimen and Hurrungane, to name a few.

Røisheim has been providing “travelling folk” with a place to rest and good food for several hundred years. The establishment was designated as a posting station in 1858, and much of the atmosphere of that time is preserved in a charming courtyard of old buildings. The oldest buildings, now converted into hotel rooms, are more than 400 years old. We serve a 4-course dinner inspired by local ingredients and culinary traditions. (Dinner is served at 19.30) Many artists have sought inspiration at Røisheim, with Gerhard Munthe being one of the best known. Several of the pictures he painted here are now displayed in the dining room, and the Munthe Room in the main building has been preserved as it was when he used it as a studio. Røisheim also offers plenty of opportunities for walkers, from summit hikes in Jotunheimen to walks in beautiful mountain forest starting right from the courtyard.

Your self-drive tour continues to Solvorn and Walaker Hotell, a gem of a hotel right by the fjord in the idyllic village of Solvorn in Luster municipality. Walaker Hotell is a charming family-run hotel and a stay at Walaker Hotell is something you'll never forget. This traditional hotel has been run by the same family since 1640, with the eighth and ninth generations now at the helm. Enjoy peace and tranquillity in combination with fine dining and attentive hosts.
