SELECT ROOM AND DEPARTURE:
The perfect combination of delicious delicacies from the sea and fjord with two historical delights: Solstrand Hotel & Bad and Bekkjarvik Gjestgiveri. The complete package for a self-drive short break (also possible to conduct by public transport), visiting Solstrand and Bekkjarvik, both located close to Bergen in picturesque scenery.
You start your break at Solstrand Hotel & Bad, a unique piece of architecture built by Christian Michelsen in 1896 and lovingly run by the Schau-Larsen family since 1929. Four generations later, Solstrand remains a destination in itself. Find pure relaxation in the outdoor pool and delight in the birdsong from the hotel gardens, clear sea air and endless views of the fjord and mountains.
Solstrand Hotel is situated right by the fjord only 30 km south of Bergen and the airport. This unique location right by the Bjørnefjord, an arm of the Hardangerfjord, is as beautiful and serene as it is convenient.
The history of Bekkjarvik Gjestgiveri is based on its maritime setting and the original guesthouse was built by Royal command, when the Danish King Christian IV ruled in the 16th century that a guesthouse be built for every half or whole day’s sailing in the shipping lanes along the coast.
Behind the cuisine at Bekkjarvik Gjestgiveri is Ørjan Johannessen, who won Bocuse dÒr in Lyon in 2015.
Sit back, relax and enjoy the flavours of West Norway!

Bergen and Bergen Airport. The hotel makes an excellent base for trips to Bergen and the fjords.
Solstrand was built in 1896 in Swiss chalet style by Norway’s first prime minister, Christian Michelsen, as a place of recreation for Bergen’s merchants.
Since 1929 it has been run with great commitment by the Schau-Larsen family.

The area surrounding Solstrand offers a world of natural and cultural experiences. We recommend the following; the Oselvar workshop, Oseana Art and Culture Centre, Lysøen Island. If you prefer a longer daytrip, the Barony in Rosendal is only a 1-hour trip by express boat.
From the hotel, you can hire a traditional Oselvar or Strandebarmer wooden rowing boat or a sea kayak to explore the Bjørnefjord by water. Bjørnefjorden Golf Club is only a 10-minute walk from the hotel and is an idyllic, nine-hole course in a forest landscape. Tickets/admission to attractions are not included in the package.
Solstrand SPA offers a wonderful menu of treatments including massages, body wraps, baths and treatments for face and feet. You are recommended to book your spa treatment well in advance of your arrival at Solstrand. Read our SPA menu here.

Bekkjarvik Gjestgiveri is located on one of the beautiful islands in Austevoll municipality, south of Bergen, with the sea and its long history as a backdrop.
The siting of an inn here was established in accordance with a royal decree of the 16th century, when the Danish King Christian IV decided that one should be built corresponding to each half- or full day’s journey in the shipping lane. Bekkjarvik
Gjestgiveri itself was built at the end of the 17th century and has been taking in guests for more than 300 years. Today, one of our big attractions is the
hosts’ son Ørjan Johannessen, recently awarded first place in the European professional cooking competition ‘Bocuse d’Or Europe 2012’.
